Pino Manos (1930 -2020)
Biography
The Italian artist Pino Manos was born in Sassari in 1930. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and the Polytechnic University of Milan before graduating as an architect in Florence. He traveled extensively around the world and settled permanently in Milan in 1968, where he died in 2020.
Pino Manos was one of the central figures in the development of Rigorismo - a movement rooted in the tradition of Spazialismo (Spatialism) and the Zero Group, which initially developed in Italy and Germany, respectively, in the 1940s and 1950s. Rigorism posits that space is an active element in an artistic composition, not simply an empty area to be filled. Known for his large-scale monochromatic pieces, originally embellished with twisted strips of canvas and painted in rich colors, Manos' art explores the relationships of light and shadow that stimulate the becoming of total vision.
Manos has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Italy and other parts of the world; his works are included in several private and public collections in Italy and abroad. Three of his works are in the Nelson Rockefeller Collection in New York, USA.
