François Benoit Lison (1968 - )

Biography

Born in Granville on April 14, 1968.

François Benoît-Lison was initially inspired by a figurative approach, which gradually evolved to give way to an abstraction that was first lyrical and then more contrasted, where black reigns supreme. Black is his colour, sometimes dark, sometimes bright, without limit, it can be dominating and soft. It can accept the encounter with other colours but remains the guiding thread.

After acrylic and oil, bituminous pastes and inks open another door for him, that of the much deeper and more contemporary abstract with the possibility of working with these materials in several aspects and forms.

Since the end of the 80's, the artist offers us works full of research, reflection and philosophy, charged with a strong and raw message, bringing his thoughts to light and leaving an indelible imprint on them.

Abstraction is his adventure, his freedom, his fight, his dreams, his rage, his solitude.

The works of Jackson Pollock, Caravaggio, Egon Schiele, Pierre Soulages and André Marfaing are major references for the artist.

In September 2022, the Sarto Gallery is proud to release its first catalogue raisonné, which covers the artist's career from 1998 to 2021 (nearly 850 works) in over 200 pages.

His book is available at the gallery on request and on our website.
